The LOVERS are trade fair hostess Brigitte and young Paula. Faced with the shrinking market value of her femininity, Brigitte makes wealthy Heinz her lover. She just manages to make her way to the top, while Paula has yet to learn the hardships of life. With this modern adaption of Elfriede Jelinek‘s novel “WOMEN AS LOVERS“ (Die Liebhaberinnen), director Koxi has created an absurdly humorous and bitterly tragic film that reminds us how much we are still at the mercy of the economics of love and self-exploitation today.
