In 1980s Tehran, a lively family gathering to mark the traditional ritual of full-body hair removal for women is disrupted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps: they are searching for banned VHS tapes of Hollywood movies.
Nazgol Kashani is a Berlin based, Iranian-American filmmaker, who grew up in Tehran. Her work moves between documentary and fiction, exploring history and memory and how individuals navigate larger political realities, often with a touch of humour. Before turning to filmmaking, she studied Cultural Policy in Paris and London and worked as an art curator and arts journalist.
